Aerovel is seeking Electrical Engineers of all levels and experience to join us in designing, developing, and manufacturing the most advanced long-range robotic aircraft.Aerovel is led by the aeronautical veterans who invented and developed the Group 2 small tactical unmanned aerial system (STUAS), a backbone of US military and allied intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions worldwide. The Group 2 UAS systems have contributed significantly to the effectiveness of US and allied troops as well as their safety and security. Aerovel’s Flexrotor is the most advanced STUAS with vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) capability combined with class-leading long-range endurance. It is designed for the demanding reliability and specifications required by the US Department of Defense (DOD) while being affordable for commercial applications.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Design and develop new electronic components, systems, and features for Flexrotor and future Aerovel aircraft, achieving optimized balance of efficiency and performance for systems such as:

Avionics and Embedded PCBAs

Payload controllers and custom payload interface

Control surface actuation

Air-data and dynamic measurements

IMU, GPS, Transponder, Radio, Video

Battery Management

CANBUS node PCBAs

Generator controller, and power regulation

Engine management (ECU)

Electric motor controls

Harnesses

Manufacturing test and automation

Lead testing in Aerovel’s electrical engineering laboratory to verify performance of designs.

Troubleshoot electrical issues to determine root cause and develop the engineering resolution.

Resolve obsolescence and lead-time issues for PCB, harness, and other electrical components and assemblies, identifying alternate or replacement components, changing and validating design as required.

Create and review electrical designs, PCBA packages, maintaining organized configuration control.

Determine test requirements for qualification of new or changed electrical designs.

Qualify new suppliers for electrical components and assemblies.

Ensure electrical engineering laboratories have proper equipment, upkeep, are clean and organized.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of unmanned aircraft avionics systems and components, sensors, actuators, power and communications architecture, and operational environments.

Experience and working knowledge in the field of mechatronics, robotics, and control systems.

Demonstrated experience with PCB design, tolerance analysis, sourcing, testing and first article qualification.

Knowledge and experience in requirements definition and production validation including environmental stress screening.

Experience troubleshooting diverse range of electrical technical issues in aircraft-like systems, including EMI, environmental, and manufacturing quality factors.

Experience with Altium Designer and generation of detailed PCB design packages, electrical designs, schematics, maintaining accurate configuration management.

Experience with production techniques and quality systems in aerospace manufacturing environment.

Knowlege of safe ESD practices and IPC.

Ability to work on-site at the engineering and manufacturing facilities.

Minimum of Bachelor’s degree from accredited university and 10 or more years’ relevant experience in electrical engineering.
