Description:

The Emergency Department Tech (ED Tech) is under the supervision of the RN, the Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) greets, instructs, and directs patients and visitors. They serve as the central hub for communication between interfacility departments as well as patients and community partners.

Responsibilities:

Performs duties under the direction of the registered nurse (RN) which may include but is not limited to: monitoring appropriate radio frequencies for incoming communication; coordinating admissions and transfers; coordinating calls and paging to on-call or consulting providers and agencies; transcribing and entering non-medication orders into the electronic health record; assisting with data collection by documenting appropriate information in the assigned logs; communicating patient alarms to the appropriate care provider; answering patient call lights and phones; maintaining cleanliness and organization at workstation; assisting registration team in monitoring access to the Emergency Department; assuring medication safety by transportation of medications from the pneumatic tube and/or desk area to the RN or the medication room.

Protects patients and team members by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.

Conveys information appropriately to providers and nurses as well as other departments.

Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping information confidential.

Ensures operation of equipment by verifying preventive maintenance requirements are completed, call in repairs, and evaluate new equipment and techniques.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge through continuing education opportunities including internal and external educational offerings.

Maintains a cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information and participating in team problem-solving methods.

Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.

Must adhere to safety protocols at all times.

Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.

Per DRH policy, all required conditions of employment must be met and maintained including required vaccinations.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the department Director.

Hours: 7p-3a, 60 hrs pp, 7on / 7off

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: Basic computer skills with information technology associated with the position. Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to remain flexible to quickly adapt to urgent situations. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position.

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED. Previous health care related experience preferred.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver's license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained.
