The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics Department of Urology is ready to welcome a collaborative and motivated Research Assistant to support administrating study protocols; assisting in the processing of data obtained; gathering information upon request and assisting in the preparation of material for inclusion in reports and publications; and assisting with regulatory submissions and project maintenance.

Perform research activities based upon protocols developed by the principal investigator of the research project.

Read and understand protocols.

Arrange and plan daily activities to prepare for research protocols.

Set up, maintain, and operate research materials or equipment.

Recruit, consent and enroll research subjects.

Adhere to safety and compliance guidelines.

Collect and track data, perform data entry, record and consolidate data as directed by the principal investigator and maintain record of methods used.

Adhere to Quality Assurance protocols to maintain validity and integrity of research data.

Troubleshoot, analyze and propose modifications to protocols; perform complex techniques per protocol; test and evaluate current procedures; develop and implement procedures for monitoring data integrity.

Assist with IRB, ACURF or similar protocol submissions.

Track various indicators of project progress and summarize in reports to the research team.

Assist in documenting compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.

Assist with procurement of supplies and materials. May initiate purchasing requests, monitor accounts/expenditures; reconcile statements.

May train, provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching and counseling of student employees.

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Six months to one year of experience with clinical research activities

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Ability to manage complex information with attention to detail and a high level of accuracy

Proficiency with computers, software, and database systems

Knowledge of IRB guidelines and submissions

Desirable Qualifications

Knowledge of UI and/or UIHC policies, procedures, practices and regulations

Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and procedures

Experience with statistical analysis software (SAS/SPSS)

Experience in sample processing and shipping

Experience with EPIC, TriNetX, SlicerDicer and RedCap

This position is eligible for a combination of on-campus (UIHC) and remote work. Remote work must be performed at an offsite location within the state of Iowa. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process.
