This position is part of Novanta’s Corporate and Shared Services global teams. Novanta’s Corporate and Shared Services teams play an important role in executing the company’s strategic mission and operations. Included in Corporate and Shared Services are the business functions including Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal, Compliance, Corporate Development and Corporate Marketing. The Corporate and Shared Services teams work closely with all Novanta business units to support operating initiatives contributing to the organization’s financial success.

Position Details

Summary

The General Ledger (GL) Accountant performs all general ledger responsibilities for selected Novanta EMEA legal entities. This position reports directly to the GL Team Leader, Brno.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform monthly closes in accordance with the Corporate closing calendar.

• Collaborate and work closely with accounting/finance representatives to record accurate journal entries in the GL to reflect the business activities

timely in accordance with Novanta accounting policies/procedures and

US GAAP.

• Responsible for all necessary entries during month and month close. Cash and bank, Prepayments, Accruals, Allocations, Intercompany settlements, Payroll related entries and other entries based on appropriate documentation.

• Responsible for reconciliation - the AR and AP subledger to GL reconciliations, Intercompany reconciliations, prepaid and accrual GL account reconciliations.

• Maintain fixed assets details and related journal entries and reconciliations.

• Focus on ensuring correct disclosure of Revenue, Cost of Sales and Inventory transactions in GL.

• Responsible for reporting activities and preparation of support files connected with FCCS.

• Support for Quarterly Balance Sheet reviews. Providing explanations for quarterly/annual movements in reported figures.

• Maintain strong internal controls as stated in our SOX narratives and ensure contemporaneous documentation/signoffs are obtained and maintained on file.

• Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations and other analysis to ensure accurate and timely financial closing each month.

• Become the go-to person for questions of the SSC EMEA AP Accountant and the SSC EMEA AR & Cash Accountant when relevant for GL transactions. Answer questions on transaction processing and account coding.

• Special projects such as accounting system conversion/upgrades, resolving issues with automated transactions, as needed.

Required Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

• Relevant GL Accounting experience for at least two years in a comparable role in multinational company.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and able to communicate with various levels of management.

• Able to work on own initiative, self-starter, high level of work quality and attention to details.

• Excellent computer skills (advanced Excel, ORACLE/SAP and Hyperion/FCCS preferred).

• Broad knowledge of accounting principles and practices under US GAAP.

• Extensive familiarity with internal accounting controls and objectives.

• Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and work well under pressure.

• Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with others from multiple locations.
