My notes: (Data Scientist Data scientists work together with analysts and businesses to convert data insights into action. They make diagrams, graphs, and charts to represent trends and predictions. Data summarization helps stakeholders understand and implement results effectively.)

Role: This Data Scientist will report to the CTO. They will start on the Cetrifi side but will eventually support both companies (Site impact and Centrifi). This is the 1st Data Scientist hire on this team. They will build models for their smart proposal and look at the data architecture they have now to give their input on possible changes. Their 3rdparty and internal team helped with the current data architecture, and everything is in Google Cloud (GCP). This is a great role, because you can come in to make a name for yourself and build this thing up the way you see fit. This is also a brand-new product with the potential to disrupt the market. You will be working closely with the Centrifi development team, the feature engineering team and the product team. You will also work with Site Impact team too.

Must have skills: They need upper mid-level to senior level Data Scientist experience with the ability to work independently without any other Data Scientists on their team. They need cloud experience (any will work, but Google GCP is the preference). They need experience with data analysis and data modeling, data wrangling and cleaning, feature development, statistical analysis and hypothesis testing. They are not stuck on language, since it’s greenfield right now, but Python or R would be good. Industry experience is a plus in the advertising platform industry (agencies don’t tend to have these people). They need at least a 4-year degree, but a master’s in data science would be great (experience trumps a degree).

Fall short: They only interviewed 2 people. The first one wasn’t strong and was part of a larger data scientist team, so they didn’t feel he could be independent on his own. They liked the 2nd person, and he was presented to them at $200K. When it came to an offer, he wanted them to make up for the stock options he’d be given up and changed his asking salary to $400K. He wasn’t local either, and they didn’t think he’d want to move from the Tampa area.

Salary/Bonus: They’ve budgeted around $150K-$175K but they will go higher if needed to get the best person. They are more likely to negotiate around the bonus. Total comp could be north of $200K.They also have an annual bonus of 5% based on hitting metrics (50% company and 50% individual).

Interview Process: send resumes to Tara. 30-45 min with Mike (video-initial skill assessment), then an onsite with Mike and a couple of others from tech and product (2 hours) and then final is a video with Jen (CEO) or Jordan (CFO). They want the entire process to be less than 2 weeks.

Remote/Onsite: Most employees work a hybrid onsite schedule. Everyone is there on Tuesday and Thursday but has their choice of the 3rd day (most choose Tues-Thur). Management is required to come onsite 5 days a week, though.
