Job Description: The HVAC Mechanic is responsible for installing, servicing, and repairing environmental-control systems in residences, office buildings, and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout. The HVAC Mechanic will be performing service call and preventative maintenance of Military Housing facilities which will require direct communications with Military Housing residents, Government and company quality inspectors.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Must be able to diagnose system problems and provide necessary repair actions
Employee will be required interact with the residents to determine the root cause of the problem and inform them of the corrective actions being taken
This position utilizes written service orders or individual work orders to identify the type of problem, and location for the required service. The employee is required to complete the service or work order paper work once the work is completed and to turn them into the service desk at the end of the shift. If issues arise during the service the employee will communicate via cell phone to the service desk for further direction
Performs scheduled preventative maintenance actions that are required by this contract
Repairs, overhauls, maintains, and services industrial residential heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration units. Troubleshoots and locates malfunctions, diagnoses problems, and determines appropriate repairs.
Adjusts, repairs, or replaces thermostats, pressure stats, relays, switches, and electrical wiring
Repairs or replaces compressors and components, electric motors, fans, belts, and pulleys
Mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications
Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment
Installs evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools
Services and repairs evaporators, condensers, and receivers. Repacks valves, lubricates moving parts, replaces filters, and cleans coils.
Works from blueprints, drawings, models, and/or verbal and written instructions
Repairs components within a system to include transformers, motors, electrodes, solenoids, rheostats, and aqua stats
Maintains refrigerate inventory and consumption logs
This position requires the employee to periodically work swing and weekend shifts on a scheduled basis or to be on-call should a situation arise
Will be scheduled for an on-call status periodically with other technicians to respond to call-outs after normal working hours as needed
Assists other trades and crafts personnel in their daily operations
Follows established safety procedures and utilizes safety protective equipment and clothing pertaining to particular trades or skills
Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
General knowledge of hand and power tools
Ability to perform duties in a timely, accurate and cost-effective manner
Ability to work independently without continuous supervision
Ability to correctly use all safety equipment and clothing provided by management.
Ability to maintain valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
Minimum Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent
Journeyman's certification
Four (4) years' journey-man level experience as an HVAC technician
Possession of a universal refrigerant card issued by the EPA
Ability to comprehend, speak, read and write Basic English
Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
Formal electrical technician training
Ability to obtain access to U.S. Government Installations through the Defense Biometric
Identification System (DBIDS)
Preferred Qualifications:
Sheet metal fabrication experience
Work Conditions:
The employee is occasionally required to stand and/or walk for long periods at a time, sit, use of hands and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, climb ladders, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, or smell. The incumbent may frequently lift and/or move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and/or move heavier objects with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision.
