The Lead Teacher is responsible for designing, implementing, and supervising age-appropriate curriculum, managing all classroom activities and interactions, supervising assistant teachers, students and volunteers and maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Demonstrates competence defined in Lead Teacher responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care and services to children from the age of birth to 5 years.

Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday (9am-6:30pm)

Location: Central Campus

Responsibilities

1. Leads team planning of curriculum based upon knowledge of child development and observations of children?s interests to provide an optimal and safe environment for young children.2. Provides welcoming environment for children and parents. 3. Portrays a positive, enthusiastic, professional attitude towards parents, children and co-workers.4. Demonstrates problem solving skills in communication with co-workers, parents and children.5. Supervises and delegates classroom responsibilities to assistant teachers, volunteers, and student teachers.6. Assists administrator in evaluating assistant teachers in their classroom.7. Models flexibility in work schedule to meet the changing needs of Center enrollment and staffing patterns.8. Provides supervision that ensures children are constantly attended by Center staff.9. Monitors children in the group and reports any unusual symptoms to parents or administrator10. Participates in safety practice drills.11. Maintains all required records including attendance, meal counts, conference reports and prepares other required classroom records (medication forms, developmental records). Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to State Licensing regulations, NAEYC, SUTQ, and Center policies.12. Arranges and conducts parent/teacher conferences at least twice per year.13. Attends staff meetings and community workshops.14. Responds to communications from the Hospital and from the Center Director in a timely manner.15. Utilizes Center materials and resources and helps maintain these resources to aide in continued Center educational growth.16. Maintains cleanliness and order in the classroom.17. Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's or Associates degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education or related field with minimum of 30 quarter or 24 semester hours in Child Development or Early Childhood Education.

Experience:

Hands-on experience in an early childhood education program desired.

Communication skills necessary to effectively interact with children, parents, peers and administrators.

Ability to supervise and provide direction for Assistant Teachers and Students.5. Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks and change priorities.6. Ability to create a positive atmosphere in the classroom.
