Organization Description: The Big Bad Woof is a community resource for companion animals and their guardians. We provide access to organic, holistic and premium raw diets, and a wide range of alternatives including holistic supplements for companion animals. The Big Bad Woof hosts several rescue organizations including the Humane Rescue Alliance, Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and others. Adoption events are held at the store on a regular basis featuring one of the above organizations.

Position Description: Responsible for accurately and efficiently receiving large inventory deliveries, noting discrepancies, damages, and short-dated products.

Job Relationships: This position reports to the Manager On Duty. Does not supervise other employees.

Essential Duties & Functions:

Receiving/Stock

Receive new inventory and note items to be reordered or replenished.

Responsible for the data entry needed for inventory control, processing returns and credits.

Process special order requests, including procedures for following up with customers when products don’t arrive.

Label incoming inventory. This also includes re-labeling merchandise as needed.

Process all receiving paperwork.

Customer Service

Greet all customers and be attentive to them as needed to answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.

Direct customers by escorting them to racks and shelves; suggesting items.

Advise customers by providing information about merchandise, building customer confidence by offering informed opinions..

Assist customers with their packages as needed.

Contact customers when special orders have arrived and offer substitutions when they do not.

Safety

Be aware of people in the store and recognize security risks and thefts.

Ensure a safe work environment; following all safety guidelines.

Take immediate action to address any safety concerns that could put a staff member, customer or the organization at risk.

Clean up immediately after pet accidents in the store.

Cleaning

Shelves and racks should be dusted/wiped down when needed.

Responsible for organizing and cleaning of stockroom(s) and back freezers according to store procedures.

Responsible for breaking down cartons, preparing them for recycling, and placing them outside for pickup as boxes are emptied.

Responsible for checking and noting for re-order of all cleaning supplies including re-usable towels, paper goods, trash bags, and cleaners.

Responsible for maintaining plastic for recycling in compliance with fire code and company guidelines.

Sales

Help sales associates set up advertising signs and displays of merchandise on shelves, counters, or tables to attract customers and promote sales.

Ring sales on point-of-service (POS) system when needed.

Write up and receive special orders.

Keep up-to-date on sales, specials, promotions and store events.

Other

Assume the duties of the Sales Associate when needed.

Answer the phones within 2 rings if possible. Take messages as needed.

Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Other duties as assigned.

Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking and standing on feet 8 hours per day while performing job functions.

Frequent lifting of up to 50lbs. with reasonable accommodations.

Consistently exposed to animals and animal allergens under conditions with limited alterations available.

Exposure to sub-zero walk-in freezer.

Qualifications & Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and task satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

High school diploma or equivalent.

1 – 2 years customer service experience preferred.

Confidence working in a fast-paced environment.

High-energy and ability to multi-task.

Attention to detail.

Positive / flexible attitude.

Commitment to the mission, values, goals and success of The Big Bad Woof.

Knowledge of animal breeds, behavior, pet foods, nutrition and pet supplies helpful.

Must be able speak and write legibly in English.

Basic math and computer skills required

Minimum Receiving Schedule (subject to change)

Tuesday 9 am - 3 pm

Wednesday & Thursday 10 am - 3 pm

Friday 7 am - 3 pm

Saturday or Sunday shift required at least twice per month
