Job Description for Project Inspector

This position report directly to a Project Manager of Ascension Construction Solutions

Ascension Construction Solutions has a job opening for a full-time construction inspector for utility, tunnels, water/wastewater, and vertical construction projects.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS

Perform all functions with honesty and integrity.

Perform construction inspection and testing services related to earthwork, utilities, tunnels, materials and general construction for DOT, municipalities, vertical construction and private sector clients.

Perform computations with formulas, plot data and draw simple curves and graphs.

Responsible for inspecting and reporting on specific aspects of construction works in progress for transportation, utility, water/wastewater and vertical construction projects.

Responsible for inspection and sampling of construction materials i.e concrete.

Assure that job site tests/ inspections, including quality control, quality assurance, and verifications are performed in accordance with the standard test/ inspection methods, project specifications, and another contract document.

Prioritize and work on multiple projects/tasks simultaneously.

Perform all phases of field assignment. Interpret specifications, working drawings and convey intent to the contractor.

Responsible for all aspects of field inspection, testing, testing coordination, and sampling equipment.

Obtain and record field data, in a legible and organized fashion; as required by the plans, specifications, or project staff.

Generate and compile electronic field reports.

Work with project staff on design changes.

Communicate with all entities keeping everyone fully informed.

Take project photos and record daily installed construction quantities to review payment requests in terms of progress and amount completed to date.

Review construction schedule for timeliness of work.

Understand the public health and safety requirements and be fully trained in the proper safety procedures.

May be required to take meeting notes.

Experience operating laptops or tablets.

Willingness to work outside, along side heavy construction equipment.

May be required to perform night shift work.

Assume additional responsibilities as directed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Climb permanent and temporary stairs and ladders.

Stand for long periods of time.

Use of construction personnel hoist.

Navigate active construction sites consisting of uneven ground varying in height and consistency of material.

Use of vision, hands and fingers.

Speak, hear, stoop/bend crouch.

Lift/carry a minimum of 30 pounds.

Be able to wear standard PPE, i.e. hard hats, safety vest, work boots, safety glasses/goggles.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Mud, gravel, rutted/uneven ground etc.

Exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

Exposed to heavy machinery.

Loud noise.

Tripping hazards.

Environmental hazards.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School diploma or GED required.

Associate's degree or greater in Civil or Construction Engineering Technology, Construction Management.

Equivalent post-secondary education 2 or 4-year degree.

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidate must have a valid driver's license and retain a clean motor vehicle report (MVR) for final consideration.

Must have 1-7 years' experience working in a construction related background.

Experience with water/wastewater facilities, highway/roadway or utility waterline installation, storm or sanitary sewer construction type projects is a plus.

Understanding of industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activities.

Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence, etc.) skills.

Possess a personal vehicle for use during the day for transportation to and from and on or around a job site.

Ability to read and understand plans and direction given in English language.

Ability to write in English.

Basic math and computer skills.

Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Word documents.

Ability to create and or edit Microsoft Excel documents.

Ability to create and or edit Outlook emails with attachments.

DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS

ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician - Grade I

Ohio Level I Aggregate Technician Training (OAIMA)

NICET Level II Construction Materials Testing - Subfield Construction

ODOT Flexible Pavement Test

ODOT Traffic Work Zone Test

Ideal candidates are prequalified as an ODOT Project Inspector, Structures Inspector, Coating Inspector or Traffic Inspector or have the ability to obtain within 6 months.

ACS will assist in obtaining certifications

This position is contingent on the successful completion of a background check and drug screening.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
