Position Overview:

WCK is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Controller to join our team. The Controller will play a pivotal role in overseeing all aspects of accounting and financial management, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will exhibit unwavering reliability, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to leadership within a dynamic, high-volume environment. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and collaborates closely with the Director of Finance, Senior Manager of Field Finance, and senior leadership to support the organization's mission-driven initiatives.

This position is hybrid, based in Washington DC, with 2-3 days on-site per week when not traveling. This position requires occasional travel, including internationally.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

Accounting Oversight: Manage accounts and ledgers to ensure timely reconciliations and monthly close in compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements

Grant and Program Accounting: Supervise financial tracking and reporting for grants and programs, ensuring proper allocation of funds and adherence to donor requirements

Systems Oversight: Evaluate accounting, subledger, and internal control systems to continually improve efficiency and accuracy

Policy and Procedure Development: Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with best practices

Audit Coordination: Coordinate external audits, liaise with auditors, and implement recommendations to strengthen internal controls and processes

Budget Development: Lead the annual budgeting process, working collaboratively with departmental leaders to develop realistic and strategic financial plans and to optimize resource allocation

Financial Analysis: Provide insightful analysis and recommendations to senior leadership based on financial data, trends, and performance metrics

Team Leadership: Hire, train, and mentor accounting staff, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and professional development

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)

CPA certification is highly preferred

Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably in the humanitarian or emergency relief sector

Strong knowledge of GAAP, nonprofit accounting principles, and grant accounting standards

Experience with financial software systems (e.g., Sage Intacct) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel

Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate findings effectively

Proven leadership ability, with experience managing and developing a team of accounting professionals

Ability to operate across multiple time zones and manage people and processes in a non-traditional setting

Commitment to the mission and values of World Central Kitchen

Valid passport and the ability to travel at short notice

Valid US employment authorization

Fluency in English required; proficiency in additional languages, particularly Spanish, is a plus

Preferred requirements include a related Master's Degree; related humanitarian or emergency relief experience; and proficiency in Spanish.
