Job Description

Job Title: CERTIFIED ADDICTION COUNSELOR I or II

Department: Mental Health & Substance Use

Supervisor: Substance Use Program Manager

Location: Washington, DC

Classification: Hour Classification - Non-Exempt/Hourly

Synopsis: The Certified Addiction Counselor will provide both group and individual substance use counseling in the outpatient treatment programs. The Certified Addiction Counselor will be responsible for performing substance use assessments for all potential clients and developing and monitoring treatment plans for those admitted into the program as required by Chapter 63.

Qualifications: Required Education and Experience:

Licensed as a Certified Addition Counselor (CACI or CACII) in the District of Columbia, preferred; will be required within 90 days of employment

Fully bilingual in English and Spanish, required.

Able to work with individuals from a wide variety of racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, required.

Able to work with in a team, required; and

Able to provide face-to-face and tele-mental health services, required.

Preferred Education and Experience:

2 years’ experience providing substance use counseling or other related human service field activities, preferred.

Experience working with immigrants and displaced populations, preferred.

Knowledge of ex-offender population and substance use issues, preferred.

Computer literacy to include internet browsers and Microsoft Office programs, preferred.

Required Skills/Abilities/Certifications/Licenses:

Licensed as a Certified Addition Counselor (CACI or CACII) in the District of Columbia,

Duties and Responsibilities: List the specific job duties that are essential for the position. Include the:

Perform screening and assessments for clients to determine their eligibility for intensive, non-intensive outpatient treatment programs and eligibility for RSS.

Provide individual and group substance use counseling for client’s outpatient on level I, level II and RSS.

Responsible for providing all services according to Chapter 63 to our clients and attendance maximum 15 clients at Individual sessions per counselor.

Conduct and lead weekly psycho-educational and counseling groups for Latinos.

Develop a client-centered treatment plan in collaboration with the client and team, monitor progress on a regular basis.

Perform breathalyzers and UTT test.

Provide Case Management HIV.

Provide case management services that are not covered by the Clinical Care Coordinator, including case management assessments, check-ins, and reassessments.

Work with Clinical Care Coordinators, Mental Health Therapists, and probation/parole officers to assist client in meeting treatment goals.

Attend and network at meetings on substance use treatment and issues.

Meet weekly with case managers to develop and monitor treatment plans.

Document all patient information, encounters, and/or case management activities in Electronic Health Record and other databases.

Participate in weekly Volviendo a Vivir treatment team meeting to discuss and review cases.

Participate in monthly quality assurance and administrative meetings

Attend and assist in graduation ceremonies.

Attend Mental Health and Substance Abuse Department trainings.

Provide monthly reports to supervisor of all services provided and program activity.

Perform outreach efforts in the DC metro area as needed.

Perform other duties as identified by supervisor.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
