Position Overview: This new leadership position entails coordinating DCI’s EL program (ELD courses, EL case management, EL co-teaching, EL assessment and data management, and EL compliance) and developing a school-wide capacity to build on the strengths of ELs/Emergent Bilinguals and to address their SES, academic and language needs, through mission-aligned data-driven strategic planning, professional development, supervision, monitoring, coaching, and collaboration with multiple stakeholders.

Coordinator’s reporting year begins on August 1st.

Salary Range: $58,500 - $101,000 (Starting salary is determined by education and years of relevant experience)

Qualifications:

Fluency in Spanish

A Master's Degree in language education (foreign language, ESL, or bilingual education) is preferred (Bachelor's Degree and deep knowledge of language learning required). Able to meet HQT requirements as an ESL/bilingual teacher under NCLB.

Previous experience as an effective EL teacher, sheltered instruction teacher, and/or EL co-teacher is required.

Previous experience in EL case management is required.

Must have demonstrated commitment to equity and continuous improvement.

Must possess strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills, and plan, implement and monitor work independently as a leader and as part of a team.

Must have experience in backward planning and professional development and/or coaching.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and superior interpersonal skills to be able to build strong working relationships with teachers, school leaders, students and families, and other key stakeholders.

Previous experience as a teacher leader or supervisor of EL teachers is preferred.

Knowledge and experience with well-known EL instructional frameworks (SIOP, GLAD, etc) are preferred.

Experience with 1:1 technology and Experience and IB education are preferred.

Essential Attributes:

The EL Coordinator will work closely with the school leadership team and EL team in the development and improvement of our EL program to ensure EL/emergent bilingual students are successful in our IB for all, language immersion 6-12 school. The EL Coordinator is responsible for developing DCI’s EL programming and strategic plan with clear objectives and an annual work plan. The work will be focused in 6 areas:

Supervising and supporting the EL team

regularly meet with the EL team to implement a strategic plan, learn collaboratively, and problem solve

supervise EL teachers to ensure consistency and quality of EL instruction and services

coach EL teachers based on coaching objectives and EL/literacy research-based practices

Curriculum and Instruction

coordinate the revision and systematization of the English Language Development (ELD) curriculum

systematize, support, and monitor EL co-teaching partnerships and ensure best practices

research and procurement of instructional materials/platforms that support EL instruction

Case Management

coordinate and supervise EL case management, including the development of individualized plans for students, monitoring student progress, communication and partnering with families, and the development of interventions based on student strengths and needs

Ensure asset-based approach to EL Case management, including building on students strength and ensuring student voice and choices are included

Data, Assessment and Compliance

support and monitor the use of EL accommodations in testing and during instruction.

work closely with DCI Data and Assessment Coordinator to plan and supervise EL screening testing and EL assessments (MODEL, WIDA ACCESS)

analyze and utilize data (MODEL, WIDA, grades, attendance, etc) to improve instruction, co-teaching, case management, interventions, and professional development

Keep current on all OSSE EL regulations and initiatives, and ensure DCI complies with all ELTitle III legal requirements and OSSE EL policies and procedures

Professional development and coaching

deliver school-wide and department-specific professional development on EL strategies, in collaboration with the EL team and external partners

advise teachers on modifying/accommodating curriculum for EL students, with a focus on co-teachers and Subject Coordinators

Communication and Partnerships

partner with leaders and teachers to ensure ELs are successfully included in all aspects of DCI programming and initiatives (IB for all, scheduling, ACE, testing, Sped services, etc) and the school can achieve its IB for all vision with this community of students

work closely with DCI Family Engagement Coordinator, school leaders, and EL teachers to ensure regular culturally-component and linguistically accessible communication and collaboration with families through a variety of mediums
