Job Summary:

The Head of Avionics and Electrical Engineering will play a critical role in the design, integration, and management of our aircraft's avionics and electrical systems. This leadership position will be responsible for the seamless integration of flight control, navigation, communication, and flight display systems. A strong emphasis on cybersecurity, thermal management, and electromagnetic compatibility is crucial.

Key Responsibilities:

Avionics Systems Integration: Lead the integration of avionics systems, ensuring a cohesive relationship between flight control, navigation, communication, and display systems to include meeting aircrew interface human factors requirements.

Power Systems Development: Develop and integrate advanced battery management systems that prioritize the reliability and safety of the aircraft's electrical power systems.

Thermal Management: Conduct thermal analysis and manage the thermal load of avionics components to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Cybersecurity Implementation: Oversee cybersecurity for avionics and control systems to protect against potential threats.

Electrical System Architecture: Conceptualize and detail the electrical wiring interconnect system (EWIS) architecture, focusing on generation, distribution, and storage to ensure seamless integration with the aircraft's other systems.

Electromagnetic Compatibility: Design systems that minimize electromagnetic interference (EMI) and ensure electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) across all operations.

Power Management Strategies: Craft aircraft level power management strategies to guarantee a reliable supply to all critical systems during various phases of flight.

Load Analysis: Develop power budgets and conduct load analysis to ensure that generation and distribution systems meet the airplane’s demands under all conditions.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum of 15 years of aerospace avionics and electrical systems experience, with at least 8 years in a leadership role overseeing system integration.

Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of avionics, electrical engineering principles, battery management systems, and cybersecurity protocols in an aerospace context.

Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary engineering team and manage complex, integrative projects.

Analytical Skills: Proficient in thermal analysis, load analysis, and the development of electrical and avionic system architectures.

Problem-Solving: Innovative problem-solver with a track record of identifying and resolving complex engineering challenges.

Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to articulate complex systems issues to a broad audience.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Avionics, or related field. Master’s degree or higher preferred.

Prior experience in an aerospace start-up or with (electric) aircraft development is highly valued.
