Description

Advancing Health Professionals (AHP): a Peace Corps Response program, is seeking a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Nurse Educator with Mother Patern College of Health Sciences (MPCHS), Stella Maris Polytechnic University without the provision of direct medical care to patients or clinical supervision of students. The position requires a master’s degree in nursing or midwifery, five years nurse educator experience, three years university teaching experience, current nursing licensure and certification/credentialed as a nurse educator. A PhD or Doctorate in Nursing Practice or midwifery, experience in nursing program development, curriculum design and appraisal, and experience in low resource settings are desired qualifications.

The Master of Science in Nursing Education (MSNE) program in Liberia was established in 2010. The program has graduated sixty-five nurse/midwife educators that provide classroom and clinical instruction and serve as directors/deans of nursing/midwifery training institutions. In 2017-2018 faculty of the MSNE undertook a process of curriculum review and evaluation motivated by the need to consider the WHO (2016) Core Competencies of the Nurse Education and the WHO (2013) Core Competencies of the Midwife Educator to ensure the graduate was meeting international standards for the role of educator. Revisions to the curriculum included development of more inclusive competency statements that reflected the Core Competencies. Currently, there is a need for additional nurse or midwife educator at MPCHS with the requisite knowledge and skill to provide support in teaching and to provide mentorship for junior faculty. It is against this background that the MPCHS is seeking support for additional nurse or midwife educators to augment the efforts of local faculty and to mentor junior faculty.

The growing need for evidence-based patient management requires highly trained pharmacy practitioners who will work at the highest level of quality. Hospitals and other health care facilities, as well as accrediting entities, consider it a pre-requisite for any pharmacy to be run by competent and well-trained individuals, and our aim is to produce such health cadres.

The PCRV will provide support to the master’s in nursing/midwifery education program through teaching assignments and mentorship to junior faculty, support review/revision of course syllabi for core courses, work with counterparts to review/revise guidelines and strategies to select and prepare preceptors for student practicum, work with faculty to support development of guidelines and policies for program operation. PCRVs are expected to report on their activities twice during their service.

Peace Corps Response established its "Advancing Health Professionals" program in 2019. Response Volunteers serving with the AHP program seek to improve health outcomes on a societal level by providing high-level, specialized service in the health sector. AHP projects include health professions educators, health systems strengthening, service delivery improvement, and other non-clinical interventions that enhance the quality of healthcare.

Invitees will be arriving in Liberia together as a group. While the whole group's departure dates could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
