You will be laying the groundwork to drive future product and services sales by positioning our evolving solutions and products to new and existing clients through a needs-driven approach to drive future product sales by positioning selling our solutions and products to new and existing clients. You bring a creative and results driven approach to building strategic business partnership and revenue generation. You excel and thrive in a startup technology company and have a proven track record of B2B partnerships in healthcare, with a specific focus on pharma, and have some consulting background. You will report to the CEO and work closely with her and the rest of the leadership team. This is both a strategic role and a tactical role as you build the BD function for the company. Your role will be key in influencing our product, R+D, and client engagement strategy given the depth at which you know our pharma customers.

This is a phenomenal opportunity for you to build from the ground up the Business Development function of a new health technology startup changing the game in healthcare. Our nascent SaaS platform, powered by its developing proprietary data and AI-novel technology, creates the most comprehensive socio-behavioral profile of every person in every place, with products and solutions that can help its pharma and payer customers improve outcomes, reduce costs, and address inequities.

What you’ll achieve:

As the VP of Business Development, we are looking for someone to drive our tech-enabled, consultative services approach to crafting innovative client-centric solutions, closing deals, forming clients into repeat customers.

In more detail, we are looking for someone who,

Can build relationships within their networked biopharmaceutical contacts and with the Company’s new and current biopharmaceutical clients, listening to their needs, and strategically building out a Surgo Health solution to meet those needs.

Can create and convey innovative solutions to clients by quickly understanding the Company’s current offerings, synthesizing that understanding with their own knowledge and experience in the life science and technology space, and bringing that combined knowledge to new and existing clients, to meet their needs.

Can pitch and replicate engagements across clients with similar challenges and needs.

Can craft engagements that involve pure services, tech-enabled services, and SaaS solutions.

Can innovate and collaborate with the Surgo Health teams to develop new growth areas and novel solutions around our data and platform for evolving client challenges and needs.

To achieve the above outcomes, initially you will be an effective cross-functional collaborator. You will need to be a tactician as well as a strategist. As a tactician, you will roll up your sleeves to gather intelligence, create customer decks, and coordinate with the other teams to prepare, present, and propose to clients to close deals. As a strategist, you will be able to translate client needs into services, tech-enabled services, and SaaS solutions. You will deeply understand the healthcare market, client challenges and needs, ideate on the solution, and successfully communicate the solution to key stakeholders. You will deliberately position the Company’s offerings for replicable deal closures. You will report to the CEO and work closely with the client engagement and partnership team, the product team, the R&D team and the leadership team.

Responsibilities:

create, build and expand strategic pharma business partnerships into key decision-makers through your own network and the team’s networks

work closely with leadership and teams to align the strategic focus of the company with customer needs

identify and drive new revenue sources for the company

identify and explore new growth areas for the company

develop strong pitch materials including decks, proposals, and other materials

build a pipeline for growth and closing business, and own the development of statements of work and contracts

build strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, gain referrals from them and form strong trust relationships that open doors and close deals

maintain an extensive knowledge of current market conditions, competitors, and offerings on the market

deploy right-sized marketing strategies for the stage of our company to develop viable leads

represent the organization in key networking events- conferences, seminars, product showcases

oversee and implement a full business development cycle, establish and report on business development metrics, and thoughtfully build the function

About you:

have 12+ years of experience in new product, services, and revenue growth with a background in life sciences, consulting, and health tech startup, including driving revenue at the sponsor and champion levels

deep knowledge of the life sciences ecosystem and its health technology and service partners

expansive network of client sponsors and champions within the life sciences ecosystem

a relationship builder and self-starter who develops and wins new business in a complex environment with a mix of consulting and technology solutions

significant experience selling data analytics products and services in healthcare, and to pharma/life science companies

work with energy, drive, and dedication to cultivate relationships, manage objection handling and act as a trusted advisor in addressing our customer's business needs

strong ability to craft proposals, pitch decks, and other materials and presenting on the company, as well as general and industry-specific health and data analytics topics

thrive in a startup environment where you are building our book of business

approach business development with a relationships-based mindset

are able to to act as a trusted advisor in addressing our customer's business needs

Location: We are open to this role being based remotely, with ideal for east coast location, or someone who can work east coast hours if based elsewhere. Our headquarters are based in Washington, DC. We operate in a hybrid model, with our full DC team in the office at least two days/week on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
