Essential Function 1

Performs Security Forces operational duties within the ANG areas of responsibility.

Controls entry and exit of military and civilian personnel, vehicles, and other equipment at installation entry control points.

Conducts vehicle inspections, as directed, at the installation entry control point.

Conducts vehicular and/or foot patrols of the installation to insure Federal property and ANG resources are properly secured and maintains two-way radio communications with other base patrols and posts.

When located as a tenant on a military installation, assists the host Security Forces in those areas of related duties which affect the overall security and resource protection of the total installation.

Performs force protection measures required to secure the unit's combat potential against sabotage and/or attacks by individuals, small mobs, terrorists, or other forces.

Contacts and works with local military, federal, and civil law enforcement agencies to help diminish the threat to personnel and resources.

Essential Function 2

Patrols base perimeter to detect intrusions.

Opens/closes gates as required. Ensures buildings containing sensitive, controlled, explosive, and classified items or classified material are secure during non-duty hours.

Responds to and maintains command and control of emergencies in area of responsibility until appropriate key personnel are contacted and assumes the responsibility for the situation until that responsibility can be relinquished to the appropriate On-Scene Commander.

Participates in exercises, inspections, and emergency responses, including those involving off-duty recalls.

Monitors Security and Fire Alarm systems and responds to alarms within the ANG area of responsibility.

Responsible for immediate detection of hostile actions against Protection Level 1, 2, 3, and 4 resources and other operational resources, initiation of alarms, recall of unit personnel, appropriate armed response to a detected hostile event, distinguish between possible and probable hostile actions and other types of occurrences, expansion from normal security operations into an effective emergency security posture, and receipt and reaction to down-channel security alerting orders.

Essential Function 3

Tests communications equipment at the beginning of each shift.

Performs inspections and operator maintenance on all assigned vehicles and equipment.

Provides response to emergency situations within the ANG area of responsibility.

Responds to the scene of hazardous material mishaps in accordance with established Hazmat response guidelines for the purpose of evacuation, site containment and rendering aid.

Maintains contact with all posts and patrols.

Within operational constraints, incumbent may perform physical fitness exercise while on the installation and during his/her tour of duty.

Essential Function 4

Enforces standards of conduct and adherence to applicable laws and Air Force Instructions within the ANG area of responsibility.

Conducts searches of persons and property within jurisdictional limitations and in accordance with instructions and provisions of applicable regulations and law.

Apprehends or detains suspects within jurisdictional limitations and in accordance with instructions and provision of applicable USAF/ANG instructions and laws.

Essential Function 5

Monitors and enforces base traffic regulations and controls vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Monitors local law enforcement communications.

Investigates motor vehicle accidents that occur on the base.

Assists civilian and military personnel when called upon to do so.

Monitors the Security Force radio net.

Performs duties as intrusion detection equipment monitor and ensures proper actions are taken in response to all intrusion detection alarm activations.

Maintains communications with security patrols and local law enforcement agencies.

Briefs and dispatches security patrols.

Advises key personnel of security discrepancies.

Essential Function 6

Maintains the AF Form 1473, Gun & Equipment Room Inventory.

Maintains the AF Form 53, Security Forces Desk Blotter.

Receives and reports security incidents.

Performs administrative duties as required in accordance with Air Force directives and applicable Federal and State laws.

Essential Function 7

Performs other duties reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above, as directed by competent authority.

Minimum Qualifications

Must speak clearly and distinctly and have the ability to read, interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as the ability to reason, analyze information, and make sound judgments.

Must have the ability to operate a personal computer in the Windows environment.

Must be qualified, or capable of becoming qualified, and subsequently bear firearms to include non-lethal weapons in accordance with Air Force Instruction (AFI) 31-117, AFMAN 36-2665 and AFMAN 31-129.

Ability to prepare clear, accurate, concise, and factual written reports.

Ability to remain calm and decisive in emergency and stressful situations.

Ability to physically apprehend intruders.

Ability to interpret laws, rules, and regulations as they apply to security problems at the Air National Guard Base.

Participate in higher headquarters and local exercises and inspections.

Review operational directives and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prefer knowledge of basic principles of mob psychology, first-aid, fire prevention, safety, and human relations.

2. Prefer knowledge of regulations and procedures governing law enforcement and security jurisdiction and authority and appearing as a witness and wire/radio communications procedures.

Employment Conditions

1. Be a member of the Illinois Air National Guard and assigned to the unit of employment or retired within 20 years from the assigned unit of the Air National Guard with the required AFSC.

2. Requires the ability to pass a DoD background investigation and obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) prior to

hire or transfer.

3. Must be willing to work varying schedules/shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

4. Ability to complete physical activities such as lifting, bending, and standing for prolonged periods of time.

5. Requires the possession of a valid driver’s license to include a military driver’s license.

6. Must qualify for no less than a Secret Security Clearance.
