About Us:

The Ohio Attorney General's Office has played a vital role in shaping Ohio's past and present and the work it does today helps chart the state's future. The office consists of nearly 30 distinct sections that advocate for consumers and victims of crime, assist the criminal justice community, provide legal counsel for state offices and agencies, and enforce certain state laws. In these and other capacities, staff members interact with tens of thousands of Ohioans each year.

What you'll do:

We are currently seeking an Assistant Attorney General for an opening in the Charitable Trust Unit of the Charitable Law Section. The successful candidate should be experienced, licensed, have a passion for public service, demonstrated commitment to protecting the unprotected, and possess an ability to work effectively with diverse groups. The successful candidate will possess strong oral, written and verbal communication skills, be able to articulate complex legal matters, and exhibit creativity and innovation in their role as an assistant attorney general. This position will work a remote schedule. There may be changes to this schedule based on training and operational needs. The position will be headquartered at any of our offices around Ohio: Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo, Boardman, or Cincinnati.

The Charitable Law Section is committed to honoring the important role of non-profits in Ohio. Oversight is critical: One of the section's most important tasks is to ensure that charitable funds are used for charitable purposes, not private interests. This duty, rooted in common law and reinforced through many statutory provisions, is one of the Attorney General's oldest responsibilities. Assistant Attorneys General in the Charitable Law section investigate abuse of charities and fundraising fraud. In cases that result in litigation, attorneys will serve as lead counsel through all phases of civil litigation from drafting and filing complaints, discovery, settlement negotiations, motion practice, trial, and appeal. In this position, Charitable Law attorneys will investigate and prosecute violations of Charitable Bingo laws in administrative hearings and will advise on bingo matters related to licensing and inspection of bingo game operations and bingo manufacturers and distributors. Additionally, attorneys will represent the Attorney General in drafting legislation and administrative rules related to the regulation of charities and charitable gaming in Ohio. Applicants should possess significant litigation experience, including excellent research and writing skills, and have the proven ability to work proactively, think creatively, and handle complex matters. Experience with financial investigations, or a background in finance or accounting, is a plus.
