Job Description

Project Manager- The Global Macroeconomic Modeling Initiative

Summary: The Bezos Earth Fund seeks an individual with strong coordination and community leadership skills to help manage a new initiative that is bringing together leading economic modelers from around the world to assess the economy-wide impacts of the green economic transitions.

Background: The economic challenge of the 21st century is to create broad prosperity while bringing the global economy into harmony with the environment. Countries need to build energy systems powered by clean energy, cultivate domestic industries in emerging low-carbon technologies or that can preserve critical ecosystems, and transition from high-carbon industries as fossil and deforestation-based supply chains become obsolete. And they must do this while fostering broad prosperity, particularly for those that most stand to lose from the transition.

The Green Macroeconomic Modeling Initiative (GMMI) is bringing together leading economic modeling and analysis teams from around the world to analyze the economy-wide impacts of green economic transitions; test new analytical approaches; and compare results in a rigorous, organized, and collaborative process. The GMMI aims to (1) rapidly accelerate innovation and progress in assessing the economy-wide impacts of the green economic transitions, (2) mainstream those approaches that are most viable for real-world policy contexts, (3) deliver substantive insights for policy making, and (4) lay the foundation for a durable global community of practice that can continue to grow beyond this specific project. The GMMI is a forum for leading practitioners to learn from one another and build the collaborations needed to support policy making.

Key Responsibilities:

The Project Manager will work with the Director of Decarbonization Pathways and related staff to manage and lead the Green Macroeconomic Modeling Initiative. This will include:

Leading discussions around the technical activities such as model diagnostics and model categorization;

Organizing and manage regular GMMI convenings and other activities;

Liaising and coordinating with other community initiatives;

Coordinating the production of reports and a special issue around the GMMI in a peer-reviewed journal;

Helping to identify, process, and manage grants.

In addition, as a member of the economics and decarbonization pathways team, the GMMI project manager will actively engage in the research community, publishing research articles and disseminating new ideas through blogs, reports, and social media.
