THE OPPORTUNITY

Pinyon is seeking a Group Manager to lead its Biological Resources Group, a pivotal role that involves crafting and executing a vision for a team of biology-focused professionals. This position offers the chance to engage in diverse projects across various markets and geographies, enhancing service delivery and career growth opportunities for the team. Supported by a collaborative environment that includes peers, marketing, and senior leadership, the ideal candidate will have experience in areas like wildlife studies, ecological restoration, and watershed planning, ready to take on meaningful leadership and development challenges. This opportunity will also result in “soft” transition into the role, as our current Group Manager will be staying with Pinyon but will be changing responsibilities. This will ensure that the new manager will be able to learn our systems, team members, processes, etc., at a manageable pace with the support of a peer mentor.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

This role will be responsible for a series of tasks that include, but are not limited to, the following:

In a collaborative setting, create and implement a vision for the biology resources team, aligning with organizational goals and market opportunities.

Oversee the general supervision of the biology resources team, ensuring effective workload balance and fostering a collaborative team environment.

Advance the career development of team members by identifying growth opportunities and providing necessary support and guidance.

Identify training opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of the team in various biology-focused areas.

Provide technical support and oversight on projects, specifically those involving wildlife studies, aquatic resources, ecological and watershed restoration, and other related fields.

Support business development efforts by collaborating with marketing teams and senior leadership to expand services and engage new market opportunities.

Delegate responsibilities and tasks effectively, capitalizing on the strengths, career goals, and aptitudes of team members to optimize group performance.

Collaborate with the outgoing manager to ensure a smooth transition and continue leveraging their experience as a supportive resource.

Work closely with peers, other teams, and senior leadership to align group activities with broader organizational objectives.

Navigate the team through a diverse mix of project types, locations, and challenges across various markets and geographies.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO OUR ORGANIZATION

Bachelor’s degree in environmental discipline (e.g., environmental science, biology, environmental planning, environmental engineering).

8+ years of biological resources project experience, ideally with 2-plus years of progressive leadership experience.

Knowledge and experience with co-related regulations and clearances such as Section 404 Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, Colorado Senate Bill 40, and Colorado Noxious Weed Act, aquatic resources, ecological restoration, watershed restoration, planning, or other biology-focused areas.

Specialization in one or more biology disciplines, such as ecological restoration, wetlands/aquatic biology, wildlife biology, botany, etc. Species-specific surveys (e.g., Preble’s meadow jumping mouse trapping) is desirable but not required.

Employment is contingent upon the results of a background check.

Expected annual salary range of $100,000-$115,000 based on experience
