Risk Assessment Mission Statement:

The mission of Risk Assessment is to monitor the financial solvency of insurance companies licensed in the state of Ohio. Staff also monitors insurers’ statutory and solvency compliance on an ongoing basis and conducts statutory examinations.

The Office of Risk Assessment is seeking a highly motivated and experienced accounting/financial professional to manage a staff of Insurance examiner/analyst supervisors and their direct reports. The individual will have excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.

What You'll Do:

Your Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Serves as Assistant chief Examiner Analyst & plans, directs & administers activities within the Examination and Analysis Sections of Office of Risk Assessment.

Supervises assigned staff in conducting financial examination &/or analyses of insurance companies authorized to conduct business in Ohio to determine financial solvency of insurer & compliance with appropriate statutes, rules & regulations.

Assigns teams to insurers scheduled for examination, to comply with statutory mandates for periodic examinations.

Provides supervision & guidance to staff regarding assessments of insurers’ financial condition; participates in discussions internally & with insurance company representatives regarding accounting & solvency issues.

Prepares performance evaluations; initiates disciplinary actions & recommends &/or provides training, approves or disapproves requests for leave, & travel expense reports.

Conducts comprehensive examinations/analysis of financial statements and books & records (e.g., assets, liabilities, income, disbursements, operating policies & procedures), to verify property ownership, valuation, statutory compliance & internal controls.

Reports findings of material changes &/or issues of regulatory significance, assists in regulatory action against insurers (e.g., supervisions, rehabilitations & liquidations).

This position is designated as telework eligible. The agency has a hybrid work model (i.e., working in the office and working from home on a schedule based on operational need). As such, successful candidates must have and maintain internet at their remote location during normal working hours. In addition, employees must reside in Ohio and within a reasonable distance from the Department location to respond to workplace reporting requirements.

10 years experience as Chief Financial Officer, Treasurer or Vice President of Finance for an Insurance Company with experience in accounting, auditing, taxation, investments, marketing, information systems & state insurance regulations; valid driver’s license; must provide own transportation.

-Or certified Financial Examiner (i.e., CFE) designation by Society of Financial Examiners; 7 years experience in accounting, internal auditing, finance, marketing, insurance or business administration; 12 months. training or 12 months experience in employee training & development; 12 months training or 12 months experience in supervisory principles/techniques; valid driver’s license; must provide own transportation.

-Or Certified Public Accountant (i.e., CPA) designation by state accountancy board; 7 years experinece in accounting, internal auditing, finance, marketing, insurance or business administration; 12 months training or 12 months experience in employee training & development; 12 months training or 12 months experience in supervisory principles/techniques; valid driver’s license; must provide own transportation.

-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above may be substituted for the experience required, but not for the mandated licensure/designation.
