Superintendent - Engineering

Job Purpose: To manage, direct, and set the direction for a group of engineers and system analysts who justify, implement and support Regulatory Control, Advanced Process Control (APC), Realtime Optimization (RTO), Operator Training Simulators (OTS), Data Analytics and Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity.

The overarching purpose of this role is to increase the yield of more valued products, enhanced unit capacities, save energy, improve efficiency and protect OT systems and networks from cyber-attacks.

Key Areas: Direct and guide a team of engineers and system analysts who create and maintain regulatory control, advanced regulatory control, Realtime optimization and Data Analytics applications.

Formulate and shape opportunities to improve systems, processes, and enterprise through the applications of AI, Machine learning, Neural Networks, Digital Twins, Statistical and Predictive modelling with view to improving efficiency, reliability, and reducing cost.

Oversee the design and delivery of reports and insights that analyse business functions, key operations, and performance metrics.

Direct and manage the use of tools and methods for data mining, big-data algorithms, and data visualization to generate reports for analysis and decision-making.

Guide the team to perform gap analysis to identify requirements for base business and potential opportunities for improvement in terms of improved yields, enhanced unit capacity and energy saving in collaboration with Technical Services Department (TSD) and the Commercialization Team.

Conduct market evaluation to appraise available APC, RTO technologies and solutions and assess applicability as well as potential value.

Carry out feasibility studies and benefit evaluation in collaboration with TSD, Operations, and Corporate Strategy and Commercialization for new opportunities and initiatives, presenting feasibility analysis results indicating potential return on investments and net present value for newly identified opportunities.

Direct and guide post-commissioning audit of Advanced Control, Optimization and Data Analytics applications in collaboration with Technical Services Department (TSD), Refinery Operations Planning (ROP), and Operation Departments to ascertain the materialization of the benefits of these applications.

Cultivate collaboration with cross-functional teams to support continuous improvement to plant processes.

Responsible for the execution and resource allocation of Operator Training Simulator (OTS) projects.

Responsible for the enhancement of cybersecurity posture of OT Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and networks across the company in collaboration with ITD and the company by deploying safeguards such as data diode, firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS) and others.

Responsible for achieving and improving OT Cybersecurity Maturity score of MIL 2 on C2M2 framework as a minimum.

Responsible for all OT digital infrastructure assets, including servers, gateways, storage, and network components including their maintenance and support.

Ensure all OT digital infrastructure assets have appropriate threat mitigation controls / intrusion detection controls.

Ensure that OT digital initiatives are fully integrated with the business strategy, including leadership commitment and resource allocation.

Communicate results and business impacts of insight initiatives to stakeholders within and outside the company.

Participate in Global / Regional networks to facilitate knowledge transfer across the company and Bapco Energies.

Lead the team in recruiting, training, developing and supervising freshers, senior engineers, engineers, system analysts and senior systems analysts.

Knowledge, Skills and Expertise: Minimum bachelor’s degree in Process Engineering, Control Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Machine Learning/Artificial Intelligence, Data Science or equivalent.

Minimum 15 years’ experience in Oil& Gas or Petrochemicals and will have included at least five 5 years in a supervisory capacity.

Specialized experience must include a minimum of five (10) years in Advanced Process Control, Realtime Optimization, Data Analytics, Machine Learning & Industrial Artificial Intelligence.

A broad knowledge of British and American standards and design codes and of the corresponding Company standards and instructions.

Excellent leadership skills with ability to lead the project team.
