Pharmacy Technician II - Pharmacy Business Services

The Pharmacy Technician II position exists to provide technical expertise in the pharmacy. The position supports the pharmacy by providing assistance to the staff pharmacists with the processing of prescription orders along with preparation and dispensing of patient medications within the pharmacies. Assists in training of new staff.

Schedule: (Full-Time, Benefits Eligible)

Variable Shifts between the following times:

Monday to Thursday - 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM

Friday - 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM

No holidays or weekends required

Responsibilities:

Accepts prescription, establishes billing/patient charges, documents patient's allergies correctly, interprets and enters information regarding the prescription into the computer system.

Prepares and packages injectables and oral medication for use.

Independently resolves on-line adjudication problems with Third Party Payors, without pharmacist intervention.

Extemporaneously compounds medication which is not commercially available (i.e. suspensions, ointments, liquids, capsules, powders, etc.) under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Replenishes pharmacy stock area and notifies pharmacist or inventory coordinators of any problems or concerns.

Assists in orientation and training for new Pharmacy Technicians and interns. Ensures that the trainees are competent to function in the pharmacy area.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent

Licensure:

Registered with the Board of Pharmacy Technician License as a Certified Pharmacy Technician

Certifications:

Completion of a pharmacy technician program, two years of experience as a pharmacy technician (preferably in a setting appropriate for the position, e.g. outpatient, inpatient, hospital, etc.), experience NCH pharmacy transporter/technician in good standing, or a bachelor's degree

Certification as a pharmacy technician or documented passing score on certification exam prior to start date (CPhT, ExCPT)

Skills:

Demonstrated skills in algebra by passing score on math competency administered on site

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Lifts objects weighing up to 20kg constantly

Talking on telephone or in person occasionally

Typing on a computer keyboard frequently

Standing, walking, bending or climbing constantly

Sitting occasionally
