Overview:

As a Process & Product R&D Scientist at Marzetti, you will play a pivotal role in our commitment to consistently delivering innovative and exceptional food products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, to ensure the successful optimization and launch of new and improved products. The primary work is centered on improving existing products and processes while researching and testing new ingredients and processes.

Responsibilities:

Conduct thorough research on emerging technologies to drive innovation, product quality improvements, and/or processing improvements.

Apply your expertise to optimize recipes, improve use of ingredients, and processes to meet quality and regulatory standards.

Implement and oversee continuous improvement initiatives within the R&D department to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and improve quality.

Utilize Lean Six Sigma principles and methodologies to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process optimization.

Design and oversee testing plans for our Process Lab to facilitate successful scale up and commercialization of new and/or optimized products in our production facilities.

Collaborate with Procurement, Regulatory, Operations, and Engineering to optimize, validate and commission raw materials, formulations, processes, and manufacturing equipment.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, or related field

Proven experience in food product development, process improvement, and commercialization.

Strong knowledge of food science, ingredient functionality, and food safety regulations.

Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies, such as Lean Six Sigma.

Innovative mindset and a passion for creating exceptional food products.

Working Conditions/Environment:

Works in a lab and office environment where the employee is regularly required to speak, see, hear, sit, stand, talk, type, walk and bend while moving about the facility. Ability to lift 50lbs. unassisted. Occasionally works in the plant for product testing or equipment validation. Occasional travel to plants or meetings is required. The noise level in the lab/office is quiet, while loud in the plant environment. Earplugs and hairnets are required in the plant in accordance with company GMP and safety standards, when in a plant environment. Flexibility and willingness to travel as needed (10-20% travel).
