Responsibilities:

What will you do?

Under the medical direction and general supervision of a physician, the ERG Technician will conduct imaging and electrophysiologic examinations in clinic and research settings to assess the structure and function of the visual pathway from the photoreceptors of the retina to the visual cortex of the brain in order to help in establishing the correct diagnosis, ruling out related ophthalmic diseases or collecting data for research and publication.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Sets up and prepares patient for electrophysiology testing to be used in the diagnosis of inherited retinal and optic nerve diseases, toxic drug exposure, inflammatory conditions, intraocular foreign bodies, and retinal vascular occlusions.

Analyzes test data acquired using available computer software protocols.

Assembles preliminary test results into IHIS format to be finalized by the interpreting physician.

Maintains equipment in good working order for daily testing.

Assists in the recruitment of normal subjects to maintain lab standard values.

Updates analysis software with normative values as they become available.

Performs maintenance operations and calibration protocols on vestibular lab equipment.

Archives patient data for secure storage and retrieval.

Meets regularly with the Medical Director to discuss areas of quality improvement.

Identifies areas of research and development needed for new clinical test protocols.

Assists PI with data collection for clinical trials.

Assists in acquisition of laboratory data for publication / patent submission.

Ability to perform functions using job-related software and systems.

Travel may be required to accommodate staffing levels at other clinical facilities.

Attendance, promptness, professionalism, the ability to pay attention to detail, cooperativeness with co-workers and supervisors, and politeness to customers, vendors, and patients.

Work with researchers in a wet lab performing ERG and other ophthalmic testing on animals as well as resulting and analyzing data.

Other secondary duties will include diagnostic ophthalmic imaging including but not limited to OCT, fundus photography, Fluorescein and Indocyanine green angiogram, ophthalmic sonography, and external photography.

Qualifications:

An associate degree in health science or other health related field;

Up to two years of experience as an ERG technician; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Background in ophthalmology is recommended

Evidence of organizational and problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Demonstrative effectiveness in conveying information both in writing and verbally.

Demonstrates an understanding of job responsibilities and uses appropriate knowledge and skills to effectively complete work.

Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations.

Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact and diplomacy.

A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Work effectively with individuals and team.

Must be able to interact and communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Preferences: Associate degree, ophthalmic and/or electrophysiology experience

Pay Range:

USD $21.20 - USD $31.81 /Hr.
