What does an Assistant Project Manager do?

As Assistant Project Manager, you will plan and execute projects based on the client and/or stakeholder needs and goals. The Assistant Project Manager plays a critical role in the organization, acting as a bridge between management, stakeholders, clients, and subcontractors tasked with the execution of the project and will be the driving force behind projects done with quality, within budget and within a stipulated, contractual timeline. Reporting to the Project Director, the Assistant Project Manager will be the driving force behind projects done with quality, within a budget and within a stipulated timeline.

Lead and Liaison with stakeholders to manager project details and deliverables

Manage submittal review and submission.

Review drawings, identify conflict and submit RFIs.

Create and manage meeting agenda, lookaheads, and MOM (meeting of minutes)

Take-off for basic construction divisions and solicit for bids.

Manage subcontractor relationships and utilize resources to predict and manage issues.

Plans and implements projects, outlining and undertaking creative next steps.

Prepare, execute, and control all aspects of the project(s) with great time management.

Work with team members, senior leadership, and contractors to ensure timely planning and execution of customer needs.

Manage the onboarding of projects - such as setting up meetings, drafting invoices, drawing invoices, and seeking and selecting contract estimates.

Draft schedules for implementation of long-range plans and proposals

Monitor project progress and distribute periodic progress reports to leadership.

Manage the triple constraints to deliver quality projects on schedule and under budget.

All other duties needed to help drive the vision, fulfill our mission, and meet client expectations.

A successful Assistant Project Manager should have the following prerequisite skills, abilities, and qualifications they include:

The ability to work under pressure to meet set goals, budgets, and deadlines.

Multitask and manage competing priorities.

Strong understanding of the commercial construction process

Analytical skills and problem-solving skills

Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.

Attention to detail; escalate and resolve issues as needed.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

The ability to take criticism.

Ability to delegate effectively.

Oversee high-level project progress.

Assistant Project Manager education and training requirements

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field highly encouraged. Experience in a relevant field can apply as well. 5+ years of experience in project management.
