PACU Registered Nurse

Job Overview:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled PACU (Post-Anesthesia Care Unit) Nurse to join our team in a surgery center setting. The PACU Nurse will be responsible for providing specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort and safety. The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Monitor and assess patients recovering from anesthesia, including vital signs, consciousness, and respiratory status.

2. Provide post-operative care and pain management to ensure patients are comfortable and stable.

3. Collaborate with the surgical team to identify and respond to any post-operative complications or adverse reactions to anesthesia.

4. Communicate with patients and their families to provide education on post-operative care, medications, and discharge instructions.

5. Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians and anesthesia providers.

6. Document all patient assessments, care provided, and any changes in condition according to facility policies and regulatory requirements.

7. Ensure a safe and clean environment in the PACU, adhering to infection control protocols and safety standards.

8. Collaborate with the surgical team, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a seamless transition from the operating room to the PACU.

Qualifications and Skills:

1. Current (Washington, D.C.) RN license and CPR certification; ACLS certification preferred.

2. Demonstrated experience in perioperative nursing, critical care, or PACU settings.

3. Strong assessment and critical thinking skills to recognize and respond to changes in patient condition.

4. Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

5. Proficiency in pain management techniques and the use of pain assessment tools.

6. Knowledge of anesthesia recovery, post-operative complications, and emergency response protocols.

7. Commitment to upholding ethical standards and patient confidentiality.

8. Ability to prioritize and multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Working Environment:

The PACU Nurse will work in a surgery center setting, providing care to patients recovering from a wide range of surgical procedures. This role requires the ability to remain calm under pressure, respond quickly to changes in patient status, and collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals. The PACU Nurse will play a critical role in ensuring the well-being and comfort of patients during the post-operative recovery process.
