Mechanical Trades Supervisor

The Research Crew Supervisor is responsible for managing and coordinating building and equipment repair services provided to NCRI by Engineering, Environmental Services, and outside vendors.

Monday-Friday 7am-4pm

Responsibilities:

1. Supervises and coordinates work scheduling of research mechanics, electricians and carpenters.

2. Coordination of common operations and construction related activities. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of hospital systems and operation including troubleshooting and problem analysis in public space, office areas, research labs and vivarium.

3. Manages research facility maintenance and repairs, and coordinates necessary facility renovations for new research projects.

4. Directly handles matters of HVAC, electrical lighting and plumbing to ensure a safe and comfortable work place environment in the research facility.

5. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and building operational procedures, which further the goals and objectives of NCRI.

6. Establishes and implements preventative maintenance procedures on all research buildings, mechanical room, equipment, emergency generators, DI/RO water systems, and elevators.

7. Serves as a liaison between researchers and the departments of engineering, environmental services, and biomedical engineering, to facilitate laboratory moves, systems repair, and a safe and clean work environment.

8. Maintains safety first program for research engineers including instructions safety and fire evacuation procedures.

9. Promotes and encourages advanced a specialty training for research engineering staff.

10. Ensures physical maintenance of the vivarium (e.g. lighting, ventilation, and properly functioning equipment) by obtaining services of Environmental Services, in house Engineering Services department, or outside contractors as needed.

11. Establishes standards of supply and inventory control for all physical plant equipment, lights motors, belts filters, pumps, etc.

12. Recommends to leadership the need for capital equipment items and major equipment repair needs.

13. Performs other assignments and projects at the direction of the NCRI Vice President and the Director of Research Facilities.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. Advance knowledge of mechanical systems.

2. Building Automation System and lab systems requirements, vacuum, natural gas, and C02 manifols3. Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with research staff and other hospital personnel.

4. Managerial skills required to plan, direct, and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
