Sayres, a leading provider of defense support services to the DOD, is seeking a skilled MID-LEVEL AUTOMATION ENGINEER with a SECRET clearance, verifiable in DISS in Washington, DC. This position may offer remote and/or hybrid work arrangements based on customer discretion, with limited travel requirements.

As a Mid-Level Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for providing expert knowledge in commercial marine automation designs, specifically focusing on Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based logic control systems for marine propulsion, power management, auxiliary control, and integrated bridge systems. Your tasks will also include conducting reviews of failure mode effects analysis and dynamic response analysis submissions.

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications:

Experience with Navy procedures and Policies (DoD 5000 process).

Strong communication skills with experience in interacting with SES/Flag level personnel.

Supervisory experience as a Team lead or Management capacity.

Minimum of 5-14 years of experience in Navy or commercial maritime control systems, Government technical management, or Industry business management.

Possession of a Secret Clearance verifiable in DISS or ability to obtain.

Bachelor's of Science in Engineering.

Chief Engineer's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with the following qualifications will be given preference:

Master's degree in an Engineering discipline.

Professional Engineer License.

10+ years of experience in Navy program management, Government technical management, or Industry business management.

Foreign Military Sales experience.

Familiarity with Military Sealift Command procedures and processes.

Background in shipbuilding.

As a Mid-Level Automation Navy Engineer with a focus on shipbuilding, in addition to the responsibilities mentioned in the description, you may be assigned various other duties related to the automation and control systems for ships under construction or modernization. Some of these additional duties may include: Collaborate with the shipbuilding team and naval architects to design and integrate automation systems for various shipboard functions, such as propulsion, electrical power distribution, auxiliary systems, and HVAC.Ensure seamless integration of automation systems with other shipboard systems, including communication networks, navigation equipment, and safety systems Oversee the testing and commissioning of automation systems during the shipbuilding process, ensuring that all components function correctly and meet the required specifications. Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise during the shipbuilding phase to identify and resolve issues related to automation and control systems. Ensure that all automation systems on the ship comply with relevant industry standards, classification society requirements, and naval regulations. Collaborate with the shipbuilding team to implement robust cybersecurity measures and safety protocols for automation systems, protecting the ship from potential cyber threats and ensuring the safety of personnel onboard.Develop plans and procedures for the maintenance and lifecycle support of automation systems throughout the operational life of the ship. Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in marine automation technology and assess their suitability for incorporation into shipbuilding projects. Maintain detailed documentation of all automation system design, installation, testing, and commissioning activities for future reference and compliance purposes. Provide training to shipyard personnel and crew members on the operation and maintenance of automation systems.Collaborate with project managers to monitor and control costs and schedules related to automation system integration and commissioning.Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and shipbuilding teams to ensure seamless integration of automation systems with other ship systems. Implement quality assurance processes to ensure that the automation systems meet the required standards and performance criteria. Manage and assess changes to automation system design during the shipbuilding process, ensuring that all modifications are properly documented and validated. Work closely with automation system vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of components and adherence to technical specifications.

A Senior Level Automation Navy Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful integration and functioning of automation systems on naval vessels during the shipbuilding process.
