Ultrasonographer II - Ultrasound

Responsible for the scheduling, performance of, and quality of Diagnostic Ultrasound procedures utilizing various ultrasound and related equipment in the Radiology Department. This position provides services supporting the Radiology Mission of high quality, efficient care and emphasis on serving the unique needs of each customer. This position will emphasize customer service as a first priority, with each employee adopting the department?s ?The Way We Care? philosophy. Demonstrates competencies defined in Sonographer responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care to patients from the age of birth through 21 years, and selected adult patients.

Schedule: (Full-Time, Benefits Eligible)

- 3 12's/ Days 6a-630p

- Variable schedule including weekdays and 1 weekend per month

Responsibilities:

Supports the philosophy and objectives of Children?s Hospital and the Radiology Department. Interprets these to patients, parents, and hospital staff.

* Schedules, prepares patients, and Diagnostic Ultrasound procedures in accordance with established protocols.

* Operates varied imaging equipment. Utilizes electronic information devices. Programs equipment for accurate imaging, determines correct anatomic area for imaging, and adjusts equipment factors for patient age, weight, size,and special needs. Assists Radiologists and other physicians in ultrasound guided interventional procedures.3.Prepares all related documentation for procedures. Manipulates imaging data as prescribed by section protocols and prepares hard copy images for dictation. Reviews hard copy imaging for accuracy. Initiates networking of equipment to generate hard copy images.

*Obtains pertinent patient history, supporting clinical data and consults with Radiologist to determine additional or special imaging protocols, preparation, and imaging techniques.

Represents the department?s customer service focus for both internal and external contacts. This shall include appropriate speech, mannerisms, and personal presentation as outlined in the Radiology Department Code of Conduct.

Maintains stocking of accessory supplies, patient care items, and cleanliness of the Diagnostic Ultrasound imaging areas. Performs required quality control of equipment and laser imager. Initiates service requests and documents required information for Team Leader follow-up.

Assists the Team Leader-Ultrasound in collecting and monitoring CQI projects within the section.

Mentors and monitors new employees and rotating students as directed by the section Team Leader.

Complies with radiation and general safety policies.

Complies with CHI, Radiology, JCAHO, OSHA, and other regulatory guidelines and policies.

Performs procedures for research and testing, assisting the Radiologist in documenting and maintaining research information.

Maintains knowledge of current applications in the field of Diagnostic Ultrasound, electronic imaging through seminars, educational programs, and self-study.

Performs other related responsibilities required to maintain section and department functions. This may include performing the responsibilities of receptionist in the Ultrasound area.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education Requirement:

Graduate of an accredited school for Diagnostic Medical Sonographer or ARRT sonography certified, required.

Licensure Requirement:

Registered by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. (Active status)

Specialty area of registry must include Abdominal Sonography.

Additional registry in Neurosonology preferred/willingness to pursue.

Certifications:

Possess a valid BLS certification.

Skills:

High level of communication and organizational skills to meet the demands of a modern pediatric Ultrasound department's patient care and customer service mission.

Experience:

Previous experience in a pediatric ultrasound setting, preferred.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires constant talking, hearing, standing, stooping, lifting, hand dexterity, bending, walking, seeing to effectively perform varied Diagnostic Ultrasound procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUCTIONS

Must be able to see, hear, stand, walk, speak, read and perform manual tasks with or without accommodation, and care for oneself with little or no difficulty. Must be able to independently lift up to 50 lbs.

Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.
