Job Description
Position Summary:
The Scribes are responsible for assisting the physicians by recording all findings during the examination in the electronic patient record. Completes glasses and medication prescriptions, recall information and patient education needed to provide comprehensive eye care to the patient.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist physicians with patients
Work up patients to include vision, intraocular pressures, pupils, history of present illness, muscle balance, medical history, confrontation visual field and ocular motility
Document, in patients' record, the physician findings of the examination
Records billing information of the exam for proper financial processing
Escort patients to patient reception area; may be required to assist patients with walking, by pushing wheelchairs, lifting and transferring
Accurately fill out and complete all information during the course of exam (route slip, consent forms, glasses prescriptions, medication prescription forms, MRI/CT/lab order forms)
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other employees
Ensure provider's exam rooms are stocked
Conduct visual fields; operate the automated visual field unit
Address patient calls, triaging emergent calls and determining appropriate scheduling protocol for the situation, completing patient medication refill requests, completing FMLA paperwork, scheduling and prior authorizing imaging requests (i.e. CT scans, MRI)
Other duties as assigned
Work Relationship and Scope:
The Scribe works closely with physicians, patients, and other medical floor staff.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
High School diploma or equivalent
CMSS or Medical Assistant certification obtained within 6 months of employment or COA required within 1 year of employment recommended
Understanding of medical terminology
Demonstrates knowledge of proper, safe, efficient usage of office equipment, computers, and software; working knowledge of
Microsoft Office
Ability to work in a fast-paced medical facility while adhering to HIPAA compliance regulations
Work Conditions:
Eye Clinic of Wisconsin has six locations; while staff will be assigned to a "home" location, travel to satellites is a requirement of the position. Hours of work will be dependent on the needs of the Clinic. Requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting (30 pounds), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and climbing stairs is required.
