Job Description

The Production Manager reports directly to the Site Manager and is responsible for developing, implementing, and measuring processes and activities related to operational optimization, manufacturing cost reduction, and quality improvements while meeting all safety and environmental requirements.

The continuous development of the production employees through empowerment and accountability implementation of best practices in order to assure the desired level of plant productivity, process improvements, safety and reliability to meet all customer requirements, proposing yearly production plans (i.e. volume, costs, etc.) for approval and implementing those plans.

Safety: Lead by example – consistently maintain good housekeeping and equipment maintenance programs to warrant that required personnel and process safety standards are met at all times. Ensure that personnel receive required safety training. Perform frequent plant inspections to identify and correct safety issues. Participate in / lead incident investigations and implement corrective/preventive actions. Proactively address safety issues. Drive proactive approaches to safety management through the appropriate implementation of near miss reporting and incident investigation programs.

Quality: Work with the Technical Manager and operating personnel to maintain and improve the ISO Program. Identify root causes for quality issues and implement required corrective/preventive actions through participation in / leadership of incident investigations. Document results. Ensure corporate procedures for new product introduction processes are implemented and followed. Drive proactive approaches to quality management through the appropriate implementation of near miss reporting and incident investigation programs.

Leadership: Drive employee engagement and team building. Supporting a culture of mutual respect through kind candor and consistent accountability is key to delivering safety, quality, and productivity. Provide leadership to build an issue-free environment that promotes smooth operations free from conflict.

Production: Work with Technical Manager to reduce cycle times and improve product quality. Identify and implement methods to increase capacity and reduce conversion costs. Develop potential capital improvements that improve Safety and Quality performance and reduce production costs. Work with the Plant Controller to maintain accurate product cost standards, and production routings, and reduce production variances.

Scheduling – Create/maintain production schedule to meet customer order requirements. Maintain and manage by MRP reports, carrier schedules, open order reports, plant confirmations, material masters, and forecasting.

Knowledge and Skills:

Ten or more years of experience in the chemical industry or related manufacturing industry; working knowledge of environmental, health, and safety regulations; experience with financial analysis, budget preparation, and administration; excellent interpersonal skills; proven management and leadership skills; collaborative, strong team player. SAP experience is preferred.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or a related field preferred. Work experience in direct field with demonstrated results is considered equivalent to degree.
