JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible to direct the activities of labor to transform raw materials into liquid steel to produce steel castings with the mechanical properties necessary for customer applications. This position reports to and receives general direction from the Production Manager. Reporting to the Superintendent – Melters.
Ensure safe working environment for employees
Monitor daily analyses of chemists to ensure spectrometer is accurate with standardized analysis of castings and correct all revisions necessary
Prepare standards of operations to inform employees of proper procedures
Assist purchasing department in buying steel scrap and alloys
Maintain and increase knowledge of melting processes
Provide recommendations of alternative processes to improve operations at a low cost
Undertake special projects assigned by the Production Manager
Communicate with other Amsted Rail melting facilities
MUST HAVE
Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering/Materials Science
Four to six years experience in metallurgical engineering and electric arc furnace melting
Knowledge and familiarity with standards and specifications relating to product design and application, spectrometer analysis, furnace chemical reactions, engineering principles
Excellent communication skills
Able to direct and motivate people, complete multiple tasks in a timely manner, work well with others, organized, responsible, self-motivated, and able to provide professional insight to enhance material quality
PREFERRED
Experience working in green sand foundry
Knowledge of refractory products
