JOB SUMMARY

The Manager for Assisted Living serves as a member of the Assisted Living management team. The position directs and oversees care for all residents of Assisted Living, ensuring compliance with Department of Social Services standards, licensing regulations, and Williamsburg Landing policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Provides leadership and oversees the work of all nursing staff to ensure that all responsibilities are performed in accordance with organizational values and expectations; disciplines staff as needed and makes recommendations for termination when required; monitors staff for professionalism and positive interaction with residents, guests and other employees

Establishes work processes and makes appropriate tools available to staff to ensure that residents receive high quality care emphasizing dignity and individual preferences

Complete employee performance evaluations and Stay Interviews

Ensures staff comply with Williamsburg Landing policies and procedures including those concerning attendance, safety, dress, and personal hygiene

Gives input in the development of the annual operating budget, wages and benefits, and capital budget for the department; recommends changes to processes, equipment, and décor to maintain or improve the facility and quality of care for residents

Represents the residents’ interests in Individualized Service Plan meetings to ensure that physical therapy; activities, social work, families, and physicians know and understand the residents’ needs; promotes working relationships among other health care disciplines and other department leaders to ensure positive interaction between residents and staff

Assess resident’s level of care needs to determine their ability to meet regulatory standards within the community for safe and appropriate living setting

Supports efforts in all opening and exiting conferences with Department of Social Services

Conducts regular audits of medical records and follows up on identified problems with appropriate staff; identifies areas where problems are procedural, due to lack of training, employee performance or other, and makes appropriate corrections

Ensures annual Universal Assessments Instrument reassessments are completed as required by regulations and that all Universal Assessment Instrument evaluations, 72 hour care plans, and Individual Service Plans are completed as required

Evaluates work processes and methods; staffing levels, qualifications and training needs; and tools, equipment, and physical resource needs

Assists Administrator and Security in investigating charges of elder abuse, theft, or other criminal, improper, or unethical acts

Ensures adequate staffing of all shifts, and if needed will activate mandatory stay over list when needed to ensure full coverage

Makes frequent rounds and maintains knowledge of resident care needs

Works with Administrator to analyze results of resident surveys and works with all staff to improve the residents’ perception of the quality of service rendered

Ensures staff receive training to meet mandated standards, that develops their professional abilities, and that prepares them for advancement opportunities

Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse licensure; a minimum of four (4) or years’ experience practicing as a Licensed Practical Nurse, and a minimum of 2 years’ experience in supervision in a long term care facility; current CPR certification

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Comprehensive knowledge of geriatric nursing standards, principles, and practices; practical knowledge of Department of Social Services regulations related to Assisted Living and Memory Support; comprehensive knowledge of resident care standards, psychosocial dimension of gerontology, and medical records; comprehensive knowledge of management, supervision, safety, and security practices and procedures; ability to communication effectively both verbally and in writing
