Position Purpose and Objectives

As the Safety Manager, you will be instrumental in promoting a safe working environment, preventing accidents and injuries, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards to ensure the safe delivery of our high-quality roofing projects. This role is responsible for managing, tracking and initiating any required individual or company-wide qualifications. You will be a key teammate who coaches, collaborates, mentors and teaches common safety practices at all yards and jobsites, while constantly working to improve processes and procedures. You will report to the Director of Operations and have close working relationships with other senior team members. You will also set the tone and pace of a safe project approach with a high level of energy to ensure our teams success.

Major Areas of Responsibility

Develop and maintain a company safety program.

Ensure employees are up-to-date on required certifications and training.

Facilitate or ensure facilitation of ongoing in-house safety training.

Take the lead in the safety culture throughout the company.

Promote the overall safety and health of the workforce.

Ensure company compliance with regulatory requirements.

Specific Duties, Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

Develop and maintain a company safety program.

Plan, develop and implement safety policies, procedures and programs in compliance with company, local, state, federal, and OSHA rules and regulations.

Work with project managers/estimators/departments managers regarding safety and health inputs to the project bid documents.

Provide safety and health recommendations and budget implications to senior management.

Training & Education

Maintain safety files and records.

Maintain record keeping of all training, DOT files, MVR records and task training documents.

Present training programs related to occupational safety and health and those required by federal and state standards of care.

Safety Culture Promotion

Foster a strong safety culture by promoting awareness, engagement, and ownership of safety responsibilities at all levels of the organization.

Encourage open communication and collaboration on safety-related matters, including near misses, incidents and lessons learned.

Perform safety reviews and risk/ job hazard analyses of positions and sites throughout the company.

Maintain safety equipment inventory.

Incident Investigation and Analysis

Investigate all accidents and incidents and prepare root-cause analysis to prevent future incidents.

Regulatory Compliance

Stay abreast of changes in safety regulations, codes, and industry standards.

Compile and submit accident reports required by the company and regulatory agencies.

Work with insurance adjusters in resolving all open claims.

Complete and file required documents associated with on-the-job injuries and illnesses.

Assist with GL, Auto and WC claim management.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

A great attitude, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, great communication skills across all levels and a desire to grow with the team is a must.

Demonstrated excitement and passion for learning new and unique aspects of the construction business.

Demonstrated ability to evaluate workload and prioritize tasks accordingly.

Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive a culture, particularly as relates to behavior-based safety.

Ability and willingness to work in an environment where a high degree of communication and collaboration with other teammates at all levels as well as various stakeholders is required.

Education and Experience

Essential

Bachelors degree in safety, construction management, related field or commeasure experience.

At least 3 years of experience in commercial roofing, specialty trade or comparable environment, managing and responsible for an enterprise safety program.

Must have working knowledge of construction safety and loss control, including OSHA 500, DOT, EPA, workers compensation insurance, First Aid, CPR, CHST and CSP.

Preferred

Bilingual, Fluency in English and Spanish
