Position Title: Director of Music Content

Who we are

KCRW aims to build a strong community through music discovery for music fans in Los Angeles and around the world, as well as to serve as a platform for artists and their creativity.

How You’ll Make an Impact

As LA’s premier platform for emerging artists in independent music, our Music Director must be living in both the future and present of music-listening behavior and tapped into local and global passion-points for music fans. The right candidate will be excited to manage and lead a team of talented staff to inspire new audiences to fall in love with KCRW on a variety of platforms.

Here’s what you’ll do:

Develop a unifying vision for KCRW Music programming that crosses genres, generations and platforms;

Develop strategies to create daily and weekly habits for existing and new audiences in connection with DJ personas and music genres;

Expand the audience reach of KCRW Music by 20% in the first year across audio, video, social and newsletter platforms;

Be a great listener, manager and motivator of a talented team, conducting regular team meetings and communications

Administer payroll, performance management and union relations with Music staff;

Ensure all Music initiatives are effectively project-managed from ideation to completion, including preparing and enforcing budgets;

Guide the programming mix and tone of our talented team of DJs and creators, providing constant creative feedback, including regular airchecks;

Maintain and grow relationships with record labels, managers and independents in the music industry;

Collaborate with the rest of the organization to create the best possible experiences for KCRW fans and benefits for KCRW members, including in-person events; work with individual giving and sponsorship teams to identify revenue opportunities

Develop external content and audience partnerships that ensure a steady flow of the best talent, exposure and distribution while maintaining KCRW’s reputation for high integrity as the independent music curator of Southern California

Here’s what you’ll bring:

Knowledge of music trends and the music industry;

Experience managing a creative team of people;

A track record of building an audience on digital platforms;

Experience finding and developing creative talent;

A lifelong passion for music across genres, and respect for its artistry, history and role in inspiring and convening community

A public service mentality

Strategic thinking and a clear approach to decision-making

Preferred Skill:

Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record keeping

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle challenging situations professionally

What We Offer:

Salary Range: $150,000 - $170,000

Hybrid work schedule for select positions.

Eligible for overtime and premium working holiday pay rate
