POSITION: Seasonal Boat House Attendant
FIRST LINE REPORT: Recreation Coordinator
SECOND LINE REPORT: Recreation Manager
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Part Time Seasonal
EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY: The Seasonal Boat House Attendant is primarily responsible for performing day-to-day operations, maintenance and customer service at boat liveries with special attention to safety issues inherent to water-based activities at Lake Glacier and Lake Newport. The Seasonal Boat House Attendant position reports directly to the Recreation Coordinator and Recreation Manager. This position is suitable for transitional duty.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Safety
Inspect boats, boat house and grounds for cleanliness and safety issues
Ensure public compliance with safety and other MetroParks rules and regulations, as well as with any applicable state laws regarding safe operation of boats
Report disturbances to proper authorities
Keep safety boat ready for immediate use
Set/remove buoys and safety lines at season start/end; reset as needed
Other duties as assigned
Customer Service
Work with the public in a friendly, professional manner
Rent boats to the public; assist with boarding and use of personal flotation device (PFD)
Operate passenger boat when needed
Accurately keep track of money and sales records, submitting as instructed
Janitorial and Maintenance
Clean boat house, restrooms and surrounding areas; other janitorial duties as needed
Mowing and raking as needed
Report broken or damaged boats and equipment
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 16 years old
Must possess or be willing to acquire boating safety course certification
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Ability to operate boats with motors, pedal boats and row boats
Ability to work on short term notice to attend passenger boat rentals
Basic reading and math skills, including the ability to operate cash register, count money and make change accurately
Ability to keep accurate written accounts of rentals and receipts
Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a wide variety of audiences in both writing and speaking
Ability to work with the public and other staff members in a friendly, professional manner and maintain a courteous demeanor when handling difficult personalities or situations
Ability to complete all tasks assigned in an efficient, timely and professional manner
Able to read, understand and follow MCMP rules, safety rules and SDS sheets
Must be able to work a varied schedule as needed including evenings, weekends and holidays throughout the season
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be physically able to perform all tasks inherent to the position
Able to walk, traverse or otherwise access all areas of Lake Glacier/Lake Newport and boat houses, under all types of conditions and weather to perform duties
Ability to lift over 50 pounds, such as boats, boat motors, cans of gasoline, etc.
Ability to swim if necessary
Ability to use common cleaning products and disinfectants
