Instrument Technician

Pay: $30.26 - $34.51 hourly (*Pay range does not include (5) additional longevity steps beyond top of range.)

Schedule: Day Shift

FTE: Full Time (40 hours per week)

Location: 2626 Courtland Street, Duluth, MN

The Western Lake Superior Sanitary District (WLSSD) is committed to preventing pollution and protecting the environment, including the region's most precious resource - Lake Superior. WLSSD treats all municipal and industrial sewage in the Duluth-Cloquet area.

What We Do.

Founded as a special purpose unit of government created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1971 to address serious environmental pollution problems in the lower St. Louis River Basin, WLSSD provides wastewater and solid waste services and oversight for a 530 square mile region around Duluth, Minnesota.

WLSSD has approximately 100 employees ranging from technical jobs (Engineers, Chemists, Planners, IT professionals) to skilled trades (Treatment Plant Operators, Maintenance Millwrights, Electricians).

WLSSD is seeking an Instrument Technician to join our team. The qualified candidate will have a graduated from a technical trade school with a degree in Instrumentation or equivalent education and possess four (4) years' experience in maintenance and repair of electronic monitoring and processing equipment similar to that found in wastewater or solid waste processing facility; or such combination of education and experience as may be accepted as equivalent. Registration with the state of Minnesota as an electrical worker or ability to obtain within nine (9) months. Certified Instrument Technician Preferred. Possess a valid driver's license.

The ideal Instrument Technician will have knowledge of how to operate various types of electrical/electronic instruments, control and test equipment. Knowledge of basic PLC programming diagrams, operation and National Electric Code (NEC). Knowledge and ability to implement safe work practices and procedures including: Confined Space Entry, Lock out/Tag out and Energy Control Procedures. Ability to read and comprehend plans, logic drawings, schematic diagrams, owner manuals and specifications. Ability to solder and repair electronic equipment. The ability to respond to emergency conditions and develop appropriate course of action is also key in this role.

Drug testing policy: Under WLSSD's drug and alcohol testing policy, prospective employees will be asked to submit to drug testing. No prospective employee will be asked to submit to testing unless an offer of employment has been made. An offer of WLSSD however, is conditioned on the prospective employee testing negative for drugs and alcohol.

Pre-employment physical: Applicants selected for employment must successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination.

Background checks: Offers are conditioned on passing a criminal background check. Convictions are not an automatic disqualification from the selection process.
