Contract engineering design and analysis. Clients and projects:

Goodrich
Mechanical packaging of the electronic brake actuator controller for Boeing 787. Pro-E modeling with ANSYS finite element analysis. DO-160 and MIL-810 requirements. Finite element analysis of the electronic brake actuator load cell. Identifying non-current/non-conforming materials and replacing them with current specifications (SAE/ASTM). MRB and CCB responsibilities. Determining structural weld classifications (NADCAP) for aircraft components. Engineering change order (ECO) generation.
Concepts NREC
Lead engineer for composite structures for wave energy converter. Structure is an offshore energy generating platform. Responsible for writing specifications, performing analysis and directing designers for turbine structures.

AUT Industries
ITAR registration and licensing officer for thin walled aerospace applications
Engineering Analyst, Aerojet
Performed analysis on nonlinear materials and structures for various rockets (Trident, JCM, Javelin, SSST and Orion CEV). Analysis was done with SDRC, NASTRAN and ABAQUS software packages and hand calculations. Various spreadsheet calculations were developed for pressure fit glass to metal contacts. Statistical analysis was used to determine the aging characteristics of several rocket motor grains. Complete stress analysis was done on several programs with high pressure/high temperature rocket casings. Margins of safety were determined for all analysis. Developed familiarity with JANNAF.

Project Engineer, Protech
Technical/Project leader for the development of an urban assault door breaching munition for the Marine Corps. Responsible for the design, development, test and evaluation of all aspects of the program. Responsible for communicating progress to the customer with written documentation and presentations. Responsible for leading a team consisting of engineers, designers, technicians and support personnel. Responsible for the development of a high pressure composite pressure vessel, numerical analysis, failure analysis and computational fluid dynamics. Analysis was performed to determine the proper design and configuration for a Small Arms Protective Insert (SAPI) for the bullet proof vest worn by the US military. Significant ballistic improvement was obtained.

Senior Aerospace Engineer, Goodrich Aerospace 1997-2002
Performed stress, dynamic, thermal and fatigue analysis for aircraft fuel components and electronic packages. MRB, CCB experienced. Provided preliminary design/critical design detail and finite element analysis using SDRC design and analysis software. Instrumental in vibrational and thermal environmental test setup and data retrieval performed on electronic packages. Worked as Systems Engineer and wrote the mechanical diagnostics specifications for UH-60A Blackhawk helicopter.
• Wrote $1 million capital acquisition request for SDRC software package purchase.
• Designed and analyzed mechanical package for remote data concentrator for on time delivery after starting 30 days behind schedule.
• Led installation design and certification efforts for CH-53E (largest helicopter in the free world) HUMS system consisting of over 3000 parts.

Contract Engineer, Limoge Aerospace 1989-1999
Consulted for and provided design for various engineering projects. Provided manufacturing technology training for Simmonds Precision and failure analysis for the Liberty Mutual. Sample contracts include:
• Structural Analyst (New World Power): Performed stress, dynamic, thermal and fatigue analysis for wind turbine structures, structural components and aerodynamic components. Utilized ALGOR finite element analysis software for all analysis. Projects included preliminary and critical design detail.
• Design Engineer (Iroquois MFG. CO.): Designed, developed, tested and evaluated hydraulically-actuated hoisting mechanism used in trucking industry, including tooling and implementation of manufacturing. Optimized current industry design for better packaging and performance using state of the art optimization techniques and materials. Reduced mechanism weight using high strength low alloy steel (HSLA) and reduced propensity for corrosion at joints using nitride coated steel. Developed kinematic synthesis computer code for design and verification, also using ALGOR finite element code for stress verification. Developed static test plan, designed test bed and executed stress and cyclical testing.

Applications Engineer, LIVECO Inc. 1991-1994
Provided technical support for customers, developing/designing apparatus and procedures for use with mechanical test equipment pertaining to biomaterials and pharmaceutical applications. Observing member of OIML/NIST committee on mechanical testers, voting member of ASTM E28 committee on mechanical testers. Integral in the development of software for real time data acquisition. Developed expertise in biomaterials, food texture analysis, polymers and component analysis.
• Developed test apparatus and procedure for in vitro testing of corneal tissue and contact lenses. Procedure and apparatus based on application of nonlinear shell theory.
• Developed procedure for testing edible thin films.
• Developed procedure and test apparatus for testing insect wing strength.
