Job Description:
Mentorship Program Coordinator— (Los Angeles, CA)

Foundation for Second Chances is seeking a Mentorship Program Coordinator to work alongside the Mentorship Program Manager. This position involves: recruiting, training and screening adult volunteers and youth, and matching them one-to-one; case management; event planning; strategic planning for program improvement, and forming mutually beneficial relationships with local corporations, universities, and institutions.

Specific duties include:

Recruitment
o Help recruit, interview, screen and process potential program youth and volunteers from the community
o Help Identify, implement and coordinate a variety of volunteer recruitment methods to diversify and increase the number of volunteer mentors
o Research and cultivate relationships with local businesses, corporations, universities, churches, service groups and agencies that are potential sources for volunteers and donations
o Set up and help lead recruitment presentations at the above listed institutions

Coordination
o Facilitate Mentor Trainings and Orientations
o Facilitate and develop Parent/Guardian and Mentee Orientations
o Plan and facilitate program Kick-Off events and monthly group outings
o Work with the Program Manager to decide mentor/mentee matches
o Manage a caseload of 40 - 50 mentor/mentee matches
o Make contact with matched mentors, mentees and parents/guardians once a month
o Help plan and facilitate quarterly Mentor Support Workshops
o Oversee program quality assurance assessments and tracking
o Create partnerships and oversee contracts with agencies who provide additional support to special needs youth (i.e. children of prisoners)

Development/PR
o Represent the agency at community events, and on community and youth committees
o Provide required input to monthly activity newsletter
o Contact television and radio stations regarding publicity opportunities
o Coordinate/write articles for publication in local newspapers
o Develop new community recreation sponsors to provide free/discount passes for program activities
o Develop new relationships with companies, individuals, schools, etc., that are potential sources of public relations volunteers (graphic artists, poster designers, writers, media professionals, marketing experts, etc.)

Hours
20 hours/week to start
Possible promotion to full-time dependent upon performance and resources
Work schedule is adjusted to the needs of the agency, but will be formatted within a schedule of Monday – Friday from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Compensation
DOE

Qualifications
Strong case management skills; a minimum of 1 year case management experience required
Experience in Event Planning and Project Management
A minimum of 1 year nonprofit experience; volunteer management a plus
An entrepreneurial and flexible self-starter that does not require heavy supervision
Passionate about underserved youth and the Los Angeles community
Energetic, with a desire to motivate others
Confident individual, experienced and comfortable with public speaking
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Team player with a positive, professional, can-do attitude
High level of organization with strong attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; Access is a plus
