Jhpiego seeks a Visual Communication Designer for the newly awarded USAID-funded Comprehensive Community Prevention and Continuum of Care (C4) Program – Component C in Botswana. As the technical assistance provider, Jhpiego will strengthen civil society organizations (CSOs) to be able to deliver quality HIV and social services. Jhpiego will also partner with the Government of Botswana (GOB), particularly ministries at the national level and district government offices to prioritize and strengthen their leadership capacity, coordination of orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and gender-based violence (GBV) response strategies, and monitoring. The initial period of performance is two years with the possibility of three-one-year renewal periods.

The Visual Communication Designer will lead the production of high quality, brand-compliant, multimedia information products and visual assets to deliver engaging information about the C4 Program to a broader audience. This role will be responsible to produce knowledge products, such as reports, brochures, briefs, and infographics by designing and visualizing key messages in innovative, creative and culturally appropriate ways. This position will also conceptualize ideas, concepts and designs, and will coordinate the creation of multi-faceted communication for materials in print and other mediums for a variety of informational projects, including photography and videography. The ideal candidate should have a strong eye for detail, excellent communications and design skills and passion for creating visually appealing communications products and graphics. The Visual Communication Designer will report to the Program Director (PD), and will work in close consultation with for C4 program and technical team.

Responsibilities

The Visual Communication Designer responsibilities will include:

Develop and execute a C4 Project Communications Strategy, customizing communications approaches and designs based on the target audience.

Support project staff in producing editorial materials for dissemination, such as publications, project brochures, fact sheets, leaflets, posters, and success stories.

Designs and formats print materials (in English and other languages, as needed) using style sheets, templates and branding designs.

Use data, text, and narratives to create mock-up sketches or wireframes in the development of project-based infographic layouts and visuals.

Review and modify project infographics as required, in consultation with the C4P program and technical teams.

Visualize data in innovative ways using Adobe Illustrator and other comparable software to effectively tell a story.

Enhance the visibility of the project by producing high-quality designs, illustrations and multimedia content, utilizing a variety of methods such as color, type, illustration, photography/videography, animation and various print and layout techniques.

Creating visuals for diverse platforms, such as websites and social media platforms.

Prepare final media files for use and delivery using Adobe Illustrator to produce finalized product.

Adhere to USAID branding and marking guidelines, as well as Jhpiego’s communications guidelines when required.

Disseminates design templates, software and skills throughout the country office/project team to keep staff well positioned for excellence in communications and design products

Work with printers and other external vendors to ensure accurate production and delivery of printed materials.

Maintain an organized filing management system for design assets and project files.

Continuously seek opportunities to improve design processes and contribute innovative ideas to enhance the overall design output.

Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines effectively.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, animation, or visual arts is required.

Minimum three years of working experience in graphic design is required.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Acrobat.

Demonstrated experience in creative, visual storytelling, or in infographic work/ data visualization is required.

Strong writing, communication and presentation skills in English and fluency in at least one national language (Setswana and/or Ikalanga) are required. Proficiency in second language is preferred.

Ability to create a range of visual elements, such as logos, graphic systems, printed materials, web-site design; ability to take text expressing complex ideas and turn it into compelling graphics.

Excellent project management and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail.

Experience working on USAID or other large donor-funded projects is preferred.
