The SLS teacher is responsible for providing leadership and coordination in the implementation and use of the WIDA English Language Development (ELD) Standards and Assessments. The teacher will work with the WIDA coordinator and school administrators, teachers, and staff to develop and implement programs and strategies to support the academic success of English as a Second Language learners (ESLLs) across the school. Key Responsibilities:
Provide leadership in the implementation and use of the WIDA ELD Standards and Assessments
Develop and deliver professional development opportunities for teachers and staff on the WIDA Standards and Assessments
Collaborate with school administrators, teachers, and staff to develop and implement programs and strategies to support the academic success of ESLLs
Provide support to teachers and staff in the implementation of effective instructional practices for ESLLs
Collect and analyse data to monitor and evaluate the progress of ESLLs in meeting language proficiency and academic standards
Develop Individual Learning Plans, track, record, and report the progress of ESLLs.
Provide guidance and support to school teams in developing and implementing effective instruction and assessment practices for ESLLs
Assist in the development and implementation of language proficiency and academic standards for ESLs
Collaborate with community agencies and organisations to develop partnerships and resources to support ESLLs and their families Qualifications:
Native speaker holding a pedagogical certificate/PGCE/QTS if you do not hold a degree in Education
Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience with ESLLs
Strong understanding of WIDA ELD Standards and Assessments
Knowledge of current research and best practices in ESLL instruction
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Experience in providing professional development to teachers and staff
Ability to analyze data and use it to inform instructional decision making
Knowledge of second language acquisition theory and its practical application in the classroom
Ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning
Creativity, flexibility, adaptability and enthusiasm
Being able to commit to work for the full academic year
Ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, such as interactive whiteboards (IWBs), laptops/tablets/smartphones/apps/software/websites/platforms/etc., online learning management systems (LMSs) such as Google classroom/Moodle/Canvas/etc., online collaboration tools such as Google Docs/Slides/Forms/etc., Zoom/Skype/etc., online assessment tools such as Kahoot/Quizizz/Socrative/etc., etc.
Creativity/flexibility/adaptability/enthusiasm for teaching diverse learners from different cultural backgrounds/languages/abilities/interests/personalities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to create engaging and effective lesson plans and teaching materials.
Familiarity with teaching technology and software, such as learning management systems and online teaching platforms. Conditions:
11 Months contract (August - June) Working Hours:
This is a full-time position, with working hours determined by the school's schedule.
